Nie świeciło słońce, kiedy go chowali, tylko wiatr wiał, wydając odgłos cichego wycia. Pod jego wpływem drzewo stojące nad wykopanym dołem szeleściło liśćmi. Trumny w ostatnią drogę nikt nie odprowadzał, tylko ptaki – wrony, które zawsze gnieżdżą się w okolicach cmentarzy, kracząc obsiadły gałęzie drzew. Gdy spuszczano trumnę do dołu zamilkły jakby modliły się. Nawet ksiądz swoje obrzędy odprawił byle jak, przeżegnał się i odszedł. Grabarz zaczął zasypywać dół, grudy ziemi, spadając, dudniły o wieko trumny. Uformował grób, klepiąc łopatą, wbił w ziemię tabliczkę z napisem „Nieznany” i zapalił papierosa, gapiąc się na swoje niezbyt udane dzieło… Ale co tam, nikt go za to nie zgani! Przecież to menel! Wciskając butem peta w ziemię należącą już do zmarłego, też odszedł i wraz z nim wrony odleciały tam, gdzie odlatują ptaki. Wreszcie ma swój dom i spokój. Zapadał mrok i zaczął padać deszcz, krople spadały na świeżo usypany grób. To niebo zapłakało?
